Reasons Why The Controversial Video Casting Site Battlecam.com Is No More

For those who aren’t aware, Battlecam was an online video broadcasting website. As the name might suggest, it entertained live content of which was often highly controversial. This article takes a look at why Battlecam.com is no longer online. Let’s begin.

The website began back in 2010 and was created under an interesting scenario. Alki David, an eccentric billionaire, quickly became fond of the live casting scene back in such times when such a technology was at the foundation level. Justin.tv was known to be one of the main websites of its time, a site which was purchased later by Amazon – back in 2014. However, Alki’s channel proved far too controversial for Justin.tv, and his account was eventually banned. The channel entertained prank calls and other trollistic material. David’s reaction? Create his own platform; Battlecam.com.

Alki was to be the mastermind behind Battlecam, allowing his creative imagination to fuel the team he tasked with building his platform. As time advanced, the website grew with popularity. It was a very different scenario available at its time. Bankrolled by a billionaire, Battlecam was able to later cater for a varied audience and increase its exposure – a variety of celebrities from Hollywood were hosts. For example, Andy Dick was, at one point, a regular feature.

Challenge Issued by Battlecam.com

Battlecam issued numerous crazy challenges to those who participated on the website. For example, selected casters would be invited to conduct challenges for sums of money – these included; tattoos on faces, anti social behaviour and more.

As the site continued to attract more viewers, Alki delved deeper into video offerings with a new venture, known as FilmOn. The idea behind FilmOn was to take content available on television and bring it to the internet. Of course, this was instantly greeted with fury from such channels – they claimed the website was re-delivering their content and that FilmOn was profiteering at their expense. The outcome? Various lawsuits, however, Alki was seemingly well prepared, equipped with professionals willing to back FilmOn’s approach to delivering video content. Since, the company remains online and has won a number of lawsuits, and lost a few too, thus, the road ahead isn’t clear.

Alki married Jennifer Stano, a young model (much younger than himself) – the marriage was showcased live, online. Jennifer was often a feature on Battlecam, along with David, as they both engaged with the community. They later had a child.

Battlecam started to attrack the wrong attention

There is a suggestion that the website was attracting attention from investigators and police forces – probably something many billionaires would like to avoid and perhaps one of the very reasons Alki terminated the project. Some labelled Battlecam as a ‘social experiment’. Though, this appears to have been at the expense of police time, in certain cases. From a young women smashing up her home to then being arrested by police (on multiple occasions) – you get the jist – the site entertained some crazy behaviour.

Alki married Jennifer Stano, a young model (much younger than himself) – the marriage was showcased live, online. Jennifer was often a feature on Battlecam, along with David, as they both engaged with the community. They later had a child. As time went by, Alki appeared to show less interest with Battlecam and more with FilmOn. Thus, he tried to integrate the two, pulling together a social concept, of which, he classed as a social experiment.

To cut things short, Alki’s marriage with Jennifer has recently faltered. Other websites eventually excelled, whilst Battlecam didn’t. The niche that Battlecam was glued to was far too controversial and certainly not compatible with American’s push to Net Neutrality laws. Battlecam might have a bold history to it, such as a live broadcasted suicide, of which was fake – yet, the owner appears to be ready to resume his future by forgetting the past. Thus, Battlecam is today closed for business, though, Alki’s new venture could be coming soon.
